TBT: Our first VR Installation

Transition is our first multi-person VR installation. Creating a multi-person VR exhibit that simplifies the process of viewing and engages the viewer without the hassle of setup. Streamlining the process and closing the distance between what is seen and what the artist imagines without hang-up on tech. The installation was a collaborative effort, the work of several artists coming together to share their love and perspective of virtual reality. A seed represents the connection between our world, the virtual world, and the various artist's world.

CONCEPT

We wanted to transport our viewers into the world of Pantone, to give them a virtual representation of Greenery, nature’s neutral. The concept was simple, to create abstract worlds that would represent the feelings of rejuvenation and revitalization. Really connect the viewers with our interpretation of digitized and abstracted nature.

Greenery really symbolized the re connection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.
— -Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color of Institute.

We saw this quote and took inspiration from this idea. We wanted to create something where people can make a connection between the real and virtual world. Therefore, we created the seed.

It was important for the viewers to had something to connect with, a purpose to look for while immersing themselves into the abstract world of Pantone. The seed is the grounding element and a lot of our viewers got the connection easily

SPACE

It was the first time we really had to design VR experience with people, flow, and space in mind. Knowing that there is a huge downside to VR, which is the annoyance of getting in and out of the headset, we wanted to the installation to really solve that problem. Allowing the viewer to enjoy the experience freely on their own desire.

We took the straps off the headsets to create an experience where the viewer can engage with the installation at will.  This really allow the viewers to flow through the whole installation and enjoy the experience as a whole and not waste it waiting in line

The installation was a huge success! We have shown a lot of people VR for the first time and we couldn't be happier with their responses! Check out the VR experience below and I hope you enjoy it as much as everyone else!
